session 6
Learning Goal: Using a Universal Design for Learning Framework, educators and administrators will learn to use formative data, inclusive practices, rich curriculum and support structures to develop effective instructional strategies and resources for all students to learn. Agenda
Backstitch: What do we include in our classrooms? What are the ‘musts’ in math instruction and environment? When using a UDL model you are considering a large range of learners and multiple ways of learning, engaging and demonstrating knowledge and ideas.
1. Chart it out, Discuss ideas at your table, Share with group
2. What is missing? Circle on your chart.
Number Talks: Introduce and Participate in Number Talks. Plan a number talk for your classroom. Share 1 shared strategy from the group.
Manipulatives in your Classroom: Introduce your classroom manipulatives to your group. Share and brainstorm ideas of using these materials across grade levels. Share 1 new idea from the group.
Homework:
1. Content Review
2. Classroom Practice: Each participant will conduct or observe at least one Number Talk. Once completed and/or observed participants will respond and reflect using the blog. We will use the blog to continue the dialogue of how to incorporate Number Talks into our daily practice, how to support varied learners, how to support students with difficulties in English and Language processing, and how to expand and develop students’ ideas of composing and decomposing numbers. Each participant will also complete a reflection response sheet and bring them to our next math session on February 5th.
3. Be prepared to share your Donor's Choose Project.
